{"id":222,"date":"2021-10-14T02:07:22","date_gmt":"2021-10-14T02:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phms.com.au\/blog\/?p=222"},"modified":"2021-11-09T01:12:06","modified_gmt":"2021-11-09T01:12:06","slug":"severe-weather-outlook-for-2021-22-bom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/phms.com.au\/blog\/2021\/10\/14\/severe-weather-outlook-for-2021-22-bom\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe Weather Outlook for 2021-22 &#8211; BOM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has recently released their Severe Weather Outlook for October 2021 to April 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Severe storms and rain have already hit many parts of the East Coast this season. \u00a0Here is your update on the storm season ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The chance of more tropical cyclones is higher than the previous year averages and there is double the risk of a La Ni\u00f1a forming. A La Ni\u00f1a is characterised by unusually low temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean and is linked to floods, drought, and storms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the North of Australia ocean temperatures will be warmer than average, in addition to this, there is a negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). A negative IOD is a natural climate phenomenon that influences rainfall patterns around the Indian Ocean, including Australia. During a negative phase, waters in the eastern Indian Ocean are warmer than normal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The risk of flood for the East and Far North Coast is above average so make sure you have your safety evacuation plan in place &#8211; just in case.
